A message bus system D-Bus is a system message bus, a simple way for applications to communicate among themselves. In addition to interprocess communication, D-Bus helps coordinate process lifecycle, it is simple and reliable for a code example "single" application or daemon, and to launch applications and daemons to demand when their services are needed.D-Bus provides both a system daemon (for events such as "new material added" or "queue printer changed") and a per-user-login-session daemon (for general IPC between user applications). In addition, the message bus is built on top of a general one-to-one message passing framework, which can be used by two applications to communicate directly (without using the daemon message bus). Currently, applications that are communicating on a computer or through plain TCP / IP suitable for use behind a firewall with NFS shared home directories. (Help wanted with better remote transports - the transport mechanism is very abstract and extensible.) The D-Bus low-level API and protocol have been widely tested in the real world for several years and are now "engraved in stone". Future changes will be compatible or versioned appropriately. The low-level libdbus library has no dependencies, the bus daemon only * required * dependency is an XML parser (or libxml or expat). Higher-level bindings to specific individuals frameworks (Qt, GLib, Java, C #, Python, etc.) add more dependencies, but it may make more assumptions and are therefore much simpler to use. Bindings evolve separately from the low-level libdbus, while some are more mature and ABI-stable than others, check the documentation for the route you plan to use.
